Rates and Considerations
I am committed to making my services as accessible as possible. Given that wealth remains unevenly held and that insurance coverage is often insufficient for both clients and practitioners, I utilize a sliding scale for individual therapy.
Sliding Scale Tool
-
Take a look at the descriptions for each tier and see which sounds like the most accurate description of your finances. If you’re between 2 tiers, try adding up the responses that fit for each and comparing those numbers.
A frequent challenge with sliding scales is that individuals with family wealth but short-term personal scarcity may choose a lower tier than those who currently have more income but lack financial cushion.
As you use the tool below to see where you fall, I encourage you to thoughtfully consider your resources (both present and accumulated).
The descriptions below are not meant to exactly match anyone’s reality, but to suggest a general sense of access to resources. Please choose which tier most closely aligns with your situation.

Currently I do not accept insurance. I would be considered a private pay, out-of-pocket, or out-of-network practitioner
Your insurance may be able to reimburse you for some of the service cost if it permits you seeing out of network providers. If you are interested in doing this, please contact your insurance provider before our consult meeting or first session to see if this benefit is available to you. If it is, I can give you a “superbill” to submit to your insurance for reimbursement, but you will still be responsible for payment at the time of service.

Most insurance companies set limitations on who therapists can see, for how long, and in what format. This means that if your presenting concerns or treatment preferences don’t fit their boxes, your care may suffer. Private pay allows you to be fully in control of what your treatment looks and feels like. No limitations on session time, frequency, or format. Though I have some of these things outlined on the website, you are the expert of your needs and I am always happy to make adjustments so that your care is yours.
Transparently, the main reason I do not accept insurance is because of the inequitable ways therapists are paid through the insurance system. Clinical training and experience does not always translate to reimbursement rates and sometimes therapists are paid and then asked for the money back at a later date. Given the nature of my disability, I have very limited hours in which I am able to work. In order to live in a capitalistic system, I must make decisions that prioritize my mental and physical health. I would be more than happy to discuss this further whether we work together or not.

I am committed to providing services that are sustainable for both me and my clients. This is why I use a sliding scale system and reserve limited Tier 1 slots for clients to pay at lower rates. I am always open to chatting and seeing if we can find a way to make services accessible to you.
I also encourage folks who are able to pay-it-forward to do so. The more clients that are able to pay Tier 3 rates, the more clients I can see at Tier 1 rates. Healing takes place in community and we can all do our part to facilitate that healing.
